Another leadership test for Pelosi, who's weathered many

Another leadership test for Pelosi, who's weathered many

Pelosi also responded to President Donald Trump's tweet that ousting her "would be very bad for the Republican Party".

"I feel very confident about the support that I have in my caucus", Pelosi said at a press conference in the Capitol after Republicans featured her in nearly every ad attacking Democrat Jon Ossoff in the Georgia congressional race which he lost Tuesday. Democratic Rep. Kathleen Rice from NY told CNN that it's time for the Democrats to let her and the entire Democratic leadership team go.

Pelosi's allies have pointed out that numerous negative impressions that Republicans have of her are equally true of House Speaker Paul Ryan among Democratic voters. Shortly after the end of an interview about a separate topic Thursday, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said she had one more thing she wanted to add. Trump wrote, referring to Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Jason Easley broke down in these pages, "Three different examinations of the performance of Democrats in the special elections revealed that the Democrats are performing better than expected in these elections and are in a position to win back the House in 2018..."

That she won her race tells me that the Trump base is just as fired up as the "Resistance", and Congressional Republicans ought to pull their thumbs out of their butts and start acting like a majority party.

Allies of Pelosi have circled around the California Democrat, cognizant of the threat she faces.

"I don't think anyone who is truly left-of-center would be in a situation where they would have had a hard choice to make over Ossoff or Handel", Owens said.

Said Rep. Ed Perlmutter of Colorado: "Closing the gap is great, but it's not good enough, and we have to do better".

In December, Pelosi stated that she doesn't think Democratic voters actually want a new direction, but now even Democratic lawmakers are starting to disagree with her.

And Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 House Democrat, remarked that "we had no business winning those districts" due to their GOP allegiance. Such comments about Pelosi were highlighted by Republicans on Thursday in an attempt to illustrate a divided Democratic caucus. "I don't think any party should allow the opposite party to choose their leaders".

"I don't know that it makes that much of a difference", Owens said, about the debate.

The Georgia race will really leave a mark on that exasperated party.

Some Democrats saw Handel's failure to maintain the 23-point lead won by the district's previous Republican victor - current Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price - as a positive sign for the future.

Ossoff's race against Republican Karen Handel was the most expensive House race in history.

Now for those headlines: Jen Psaki, former White House communications director now toiling for CNN, penned a piece titled: "Democrats, Don't Lose Your Cool Over Ga". None of the special elections were supposed to be even in play for Democrats, in fact that is why the people were chosen from those "safe Republican districts" for Trump's cabinet.

"We don't agonize, we organize", she added.

She is the latest in a line of Republicans who have represented the Georgia 6th since 1979, beginning with Newt Gingrich, who would become House speaker.
