Senate GOP unveils 'Obamacare' overhaul, but not all aboard

Senate GOP unveils 'Obamacare' overhaul, but not all aboard

"Republicans believe we have a responsibility to act and we are", said Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Portman, Murkowski, Heller, and other key GOP senators represent states that expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the Democratic nominee, denounced the Senate GOP bill and called on Gillespie to clarify his position.

Congressmen John Faso and Chris Collins, authors of the "Buffalo Bribe", a House AHCA provision that shifted $2.3 billion in Medicaid costs from upstate counties to New York State.

"The Senate version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) purports to be a "repeal and replace" of the Affordable Care Act, but is really a draconian restructuring and gutting of Medicaid, the program that covers 20% of Americans and is one of the primary payers of addiction and mental health treatment in the US", the National Council said in a statement.

"I am very supportive of the Senate #HealthcareBill", Trump wrote in a tweet a short while later.

"He's more engaging, which means he has more personal relationships", said No. 2 House Republican Kevin McCarthy of California.

McConnell must navigate a narrow route in which defections by just three of the 52 Republican senators would doom the legislation.

Four conservative senators expressed opposition but openness to talks: Sens. And they will have even less time to consider the Congressional Budget Office's score of the bill - and dramatic headlines of what it means for Americans' health care coverage - once it's released early next week.

What does it say about the values and priorities of the people who wrote this bill, and the people who will vote for it?

Finally, Crapo said, the Senate's plan to eliminate "burdensome" individual and employer mandates for coverage would help stabilize the insurance market. He said "small tweaks" during the upcoming debate "cannot change the fundamental meanness at the core of this legislation". The changes in the Senate bill to Medicaid are so substantial (both in rolling back the pool of eligible people and in implementing a slower formula for keeping up with inflation) that there is a good chance that House Speaker Paul Ryan's dream of ending the Medicaid entitlement and shipping it back to the states won't ever come to pass. Republican Reps. Dave Reichert, R-Auburn, and Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Vancouver, also voted against the House version of the health-care bill. No, this bill's primary goal, much like the goal of the House one before it, is not to give people better health care, but to give rich people more money and poor people less. "No president has trashed a former president more than Trump has trashed Obama - personally and in terms of his legacy".

In a speech on the Senate floor Wednesday, Hatch called criticisms of the bill being considered behind closed doors the result of "poll-tested. strategy" from Democrats and "so off-base that it would nearly be humorous if the issue was something less important". It would be politically hard for Heller to take a different stance on the measure from the popular Sandoval.

Sens. Paul Ryan of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Lee of Utah and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin all said they would not support the current bill after its long-awaited reveal. The real cost to nursing homes and other providers is somewhat less because they can bill the state's Medicaid office for their costs, and taxes are considered a cost.

"It was just released yesterday".

Trump said getting approval would require travelling a "very, very narrow path" but that "I think we're going to get there".

The safety-net provider delivers a wide range of reproductive health services and cancer screenings to more than 2.5 million women, Kaiser reported. For now, it's still unclear when - or if - the bill will withstand scrutiny long enough to make it to a vote. The Senate parliamentarian will make that decision.

Tax boosts Obama levied on upper income people and medical industry companies would be repealed, and another on costly employer-provided health insurance would be delayed.

"This bill hits OH with a one-two punch - first taking away the resources OH depends on to care for children and fight opioid addiction and then making it impossible for the state to make up the difference", said U.S. Sen.
