IndiGo worker held for hoax bomb threat call

IndiGo worker held for hoax bomb threat call

Soon after the call, a few Mumbai bound air flights were physically checked after which the authorities declared the phone calls as hoax. On May 2, the IndiGo office at IGIA received a call, saying there was a bomb on one of its Delhi-Mumbai flights.

An Indigo airline employee has been arrested for making a hoax call regarding a bomb on a Mumbai-bound flight at the Indira Gandhi International Airport this month, police said on Sunday.

Eventually, it proved to be a hoax. The man, whose performance was poor, was told by his employers that he would face action unless he improved.

"The accused was frustrated and went into depression after the notice was served by the airline".

As the accused was using the cellphone for some days after May 2, Delhi Police traced its location to Pune. After tracing the number, the police apprehended Bhat, who during the course of the investigation, confessed his involvement in the case.

Thereafter he started his job in Aviation Sector and was presently serving in Indigo Airlines as "Customer Service Officer" at Pune Airport.

The SIM card used for making the hoax call has been recovered from the possession of the accused, the police said.

Bhat, the only son of an executive engineer-rank officer, had passed intermediate and got a diploma in hospitality and aviation in 2013.
