Xiaomi Redmi S2 officially launches in China

Xiaomi Redmi S2 officially launches in China

Xiaomi launched the Redmi S2 Android smartphone at an event in China on May 10, marking the beginning of a new mid-range Redmi S line-up with a focus on selfie cameras. On the eighth spot is occupied by Samsung Galaxy S9, and the ninth position was fixed another cheap mobile device - Xiaomi Redmi 5A with a cost of 5.5 thousand rubles.

Xiaomi's Global VP and MD of Xiaomi India - Manu Kumar Jain, has revealed in a tweet that the Redmi S2 is coming to India. This is primarily because Xiaomi recently touted that its Redmi S2 to be the best ever Redmi phone for selfies. Seeing as Xiaomi is marketing its new phone using the same words, it's just a matter of putting 2 and 2 together.

Cameras seem to be every new smartphone's selling point, if not the biggest.

The IDC report is in line with Counterpoint Research's latest report for the same quarter, even though the numbers vary a little.

We moved to our uber-cool new office & I can not stop taking selfies. In fact, in India, Xiaomi won the heart of buyers by providing superior cameras compared to competitors in their budget and mid-tier phones. However, the smartphone could be launched in India with a different moniker under the Redmi Y series, maybe as Redmi Y2. The Chinese tech giant is yet to divulge any details about the device but is marketing it as the smartphone "with best selfie camera". Similar to the iPhone X, the Xiaomi Mi 7 (or Mi 8) is supposed to come with an IR camera on the front, which is used to enhance the Face Recognition performance.

For photography, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 comes equipped with a dual rear camera setup with a combination of a 12MP primary camera with PDAF, LED flash and a 5MP secondary camera for AI portrait shots. The handset will be powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC with Adreno 506 for graphics. The storage is expandable via a MicroSD card slot. The company has posted a teaser video on its official Twitter handle that hints the launch date of the upcoming will be June 7.

Commenting on the report, Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India, said, "We are extremely pleased that we have been able to retain our position as the No 1 smartphone brand in the Indian market (including both online and offline markets) according to reports from Canalys and Counterpoint".
