Did Tom Wolfe Really Write Chris Farley's Last Movie 'Almost Heroes'?

Did Tom Wolfe Really Write Chris Farley's Last Movie 'Almost Heroes'?

Wolfe's agent Lynn Nesbit told United States media the writer died on Monday in a Manhattan hospital, where he was being treated for an infection.

But no, the famed paragon of New Journalism is not the same Tom Wolfe who co-wrote Farley's last movie, which has an abysmal 8 percent on RottenTomatoes despite a starry '90s cast and director Christopher Guest.

Among his acclaimed books were The Right Stuff and The Bonfire Of The Vanities, a satire of Manhattan-style power and justice that became one of the best-selling books of the Eighties.

He was never deterred by the fact that he often did not fit in with his research subjects, partly because he was such a sartorial dandy, known for his white suits. He first came to wide notice with the 1968 novel The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, an account of counterculture icon Ken Kesey and friends, aka the Merry Pranksters, traveling the country in their painted bus and the adventures they experienced. Wolfe had been hospitalized with an infection.

Tom Wolfe, the author and journalist known for pioneering New Journalism, has died.

One of the genre's defining moments came when Wolfe was having trouble meeting a deadline for a 1964 magazine story on the hot-rod vehicle culture.

Wolfe's style was not for everyone.

Tom Wolfe has died at the age of 87. "I carried a copy of Electric Acid Kool-aid Test with me throughout high school, dazzled by the idea that you could really write like that about real things".

The book was initially released via instalments in Rolling Stone magazine, before being being published in book-form in 1987. He later wrote books, including The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby, The Pump House Gang, and The Right Stuff, among many others.

Born and Raised in Richmond, Virginia, to an agronomist father and a mother who was a landscape architect, Wolfe traced his love for literature to the books his parents kept on their bookshelves.

A scathing takedown of greed and excess in NY, it was recognized as an essential American novel of the 1980s and was made into a film starring Tom Hanks.
