Former Aston Villa Player Jlloyd Samuel Has Died Following A Car Crash

Former Aston Villa Player Jlloyd Samuel Has Died Following A Car Crash

Samuel made over 150 league appearances for Aston Villa and over 70 for Bolton.

Samuel represented England at youth level before earning two senior caps with Trinidad and Tobago.

"We've received some bad news that former national defender and ex-Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers player Jlloyd Samuel died in a vehicle crash this morning in England", the Trinidad and Tobago FA said on its official Facebook page.

Samuel was killed in a auto crash on Tuesday morning in the north west of England, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association announced in a statement.

The 37-year-old player was understood to be on the way home after dropping his kids off at school when he collided with a truck on a country lane near Warrington.

Aston Villa tweeted: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of our former player Jlloyd Samuel at the age of just 37 in a auto accident". He went on to play club football in Iran.

"The thoughts of everyone at the club are with his family and friends at this hard time". He was capped by England from Under-18 to Under-21 level and was an unused substitute for the senior worldwide against Sweden in 2004 before switching allegiances to the country of his birth.

He only ever made one trip to represent Trinidad and Tobago, though, as he flew in to feature in 2010 World Cup qualifying affairs away to Honduras and at home against the United States-which ended in 4-1 and 1-0 losses respectively, under then head coach Russell Latapy.

Although his application was rejected by Federation Internationale de Football Association because he was over 21 at the time, he later represented the country of his birth.

Cheshire Police said they were called to a serious collision involving a van and a Range Rover in High Legh, Cheshire at 7.55am on Tuesday.

Samuel celebrated his 37th birthday in March this year.

"His next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specially trained officers".
