Iran slams USA 'disregard for worldwide law' in United Nations letter

Iran slams USA 'disregard for worldwide law' in United Nations letter

On Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran would remain committed to the 2015 nuclear deal if its interests were protected, according to Reuters.

"For the first time, Iran has the chance to show the world they are not the rogue nation they are always presented as, that they negotiated in good faith and keep to their commitments", said Karim Emile Bitar of the Institute for worldwide and Strategic Studies in Paris.

Boris Johnson will meet French and German counterparts to discuss measures to protect European countries working in Iran against the danger of United States sanctions after Donald Trump's withdrawal from the global nuclear deal.

Basravi said the Rouhani government's "political health. hangs in the balance" as the administration has "married itself to this deal and championed it as the answer to all" of the country's economic woes.

"We think that the fight against nuclear non-proliferation is important and this agreement means that nuclear non-proliferation is possible because Iran will not go all the way to nuclear weapons", Le Drian told reporters in Dublin.

But European diplomats in Tehran fumed that Washington's withdrawal could undermine years of patient work to restore commercial and diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic.

"Let's not fool ourselves that there are dozens of things we can do", said a senior European diplomat.

The deal was negotiated between Iran and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States - plus Germany. The head of the elite Revolutionary Guards also warned against relying on foreign powers to guarantee Iran's interests.

Russian Federation stated that it will adhere to and protect the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, the report said.

Britain's Foreign Minister Boris Johnson was blunt about the chances of avoiding USA sanctions that also seek to prohibit foreign companies from doing business with Iran.

"Officials shouldn't trust France and Britain". Beijing-based oil importer Zhuhai Zhenrong Co. kept buying Iranian oil after the previous sanctions were put in place in 2012 and will likely keep doing so when they are reimposed, analysts say.

Fellow signatories to the deal have been quick to denounce Trump's decision.

Zarif already held talks with counterparts in Beijing and Moscow over the future of the nuclear deal, reached in 2015 between Tehran and the six world powers.

They could consider retaliatory sanctions using the EU's so-called blocking statute that bans any European Union company from complying with USA sanctions and does not recognize any court rulings that enforce American penalties.
