LePage among governors backing President Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

"President Trump is due to be honored for his ability to bring everyone to the table to discuss a way forward which offers the Korean Peninsula, and the world, a path toward stability and peace".

S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster is joining the push to get President Donald Trump a Nobel Peace Prize.

Messer announced he would nominate Trump for the prize, which has only been won by four other USA presidents, after a meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in where the two agreed to work toward denuclearization and formally ending the decades-long Korean War.

Governors are not listed among those who can officially make Nobel nominations, according to the organization's website.

McMaster was an early Trump supporter in the 2016 election. Then the state's lieutenant governor, the longtime SC politician became governor when Trump picked the then incumbent, Nikki Haley, as his United Nations ambassador. The president appeared at an October fundraiser, and McMaster has featured footage from that event prominently in his television ads.

The letter was signed by the governors of South Carolina, Alabama, Kansas, Mississippi, Guam, Maine, and West Virginia. He has facilitated face-to-face meetings with South Korea and North Korea that are leading to the long-desired peace brokering between the two countries.

Trump is expected meet with Kim Jong Un in Singapore in June, a first for a sitting USA president.
