Soros basis to give up Hungary after conflict with authorities

Soros basis to give up Hungary after conflict with authorities

Analysis: Orban Blamed all of Hungary's Problems on a Jew - and Won, Big Time ■ Opinion: Why is Netanyahu Allying Himself with Anti-Soros Anti-Semites?

Soros' Open Society Foundations is shifting local staff to Berlin, the group said in a statement Tuesday.

"The government of Hungary has denigrated and misrepresented our work and repressed civil society for the sake of political gain, using tactics unprecedented in the history of the European Union", OSF president Patrick Gaspard said in a statement.

The decision to move operations out of Budapest comes as the Hungarian government prepares to impose further restrictions on nongovernmental organizations through what it has branded its "Stop Soros" package of legislation.

As you know, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has been in power since 2010, in recent months sharpened his nationalist rhetoric and especially critical of the USA billionaire George Soros.

The prime minister views Soros as an intruder into the country's domestic politics, which are more and more being painted by Europe's growing 2015 migrant crisis.

George Soros' Open Society foundation ends operations in Hungary – statement

The building that houses the Budapest offices of the Open Society Foundations in Budapest, Hungary.

The Open Society Foundation (OSF) backed by Hungarian-born U.S. billionaire George Soros is moving from Budapest to Berlin, the German public broadcaster DW reported on Tuesday.

OSF cited the safety of its more than 100 employees in Hungary as well as the security of its operations there, which fund dozens of NGOs in the country of 10 million.

Earlier against Soros and his Foundation in Hungary was launched large-scale campaign.

Central European University, another institution established by Soros in Budapest and also facing government pressure, has previously announced plans for a satellite campus in Vienna. The liberal media has attempted to portray the Hungarian governments efforts against the foundation's activities, as anti-Semitic, referring to alleged similar activities prior to the Second World War.
