Tim Cook echoes Steve Jobs in Duke University commencement speech

Tim Cook echoes Steve Jobs in Duke University commencement speech

Apple chooses its products not to be customers, an opinion Cook emphasized again during Duke's graduation ceremony on Sunday. He also couldn't resist taking a subtle jab at Facebook and its poor handling of user data.

'And no generation has a chance to change things faster than yours can'.

Apple Inc chief executive officer (CEO) Tim Cook waded into divisive political topics such as gun control and immigration during a commencement speech while continuing his criticisms of Internet companies over a lack of user privacy. However, it's not just the social media giant that does such things.

Though Cook didn't mention Facebook by name while speaking to Duke University students over the weekend, the implication was quite clear.

Previously, Cook has spoken more directly on Facebook's Cambridge Analytica scandal. It's especially beneficial for Apple and other large USA technology companies that have hundreds of billions of dollars held overseas and are now bringing that money back.

As for how he would handle such a privacy concern, Cook has said that such a scenario isn't possible for his company. The theme of Cook's address was "Be Fearless".

Cook's speech could be seen as a pitch to potential future employees as the CEO wants only the "best and the brightest who may feel that Facebook is tainted", CNBC's Jim Cramer said.

Cook opened by expressing his excitement to be back at Duke.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has revealed what he discussed with President Trump in an Oval Office meeting late last month. "It's true, undoubtedly true, that not everyone has been advantaged from [previous policies]-in either country-and we've got to work on that", he said. "Because that sounds ridiculous to me", he said.

Just before he delivered his speech, Cook tweeted a photograph of himself, with his peers, at his college graduation ceremony almost thirty years ago.
