US Bishop To Deliver Address At Royal Wedding

US Bishop To Deliver Address At Royal Wedding

On May 11, the palace revealed that Chicago pastor Bishop Michael Bruce Curry will give an address at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will preside over the exchange of vows whilst the Dean of Windsor will conduct the service itself.

"I'm thrilled that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have asked Bishop Michael Curry to preach at their wedding", Welby stated in a tweet.

A weekly overview of the chatter from Kensington Palace and beyond.

It has been announced that US Bishop, Michael Bruce Curry, will be part of the team who officiate the couple.

Bishop Curry is not personally known to Harry and Meghan, but they felt that given the fact that he is the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church (Anglican Church in the US) as well as being "a wonderful speaker and preacher, it would be highly appropriate for him to be invited to speak", the insider said.

The Episcopal Church is an offshoot of the Church of England in the U.S. and forms part of the broader Anglican Communion worldwide. The bishop, who will travel from his home in Chicago for the wedding, released a statement saying he was celebrating and praying for the happy couple.

Curry, 65, from Chicago, is one of the most senior ministers in the USA, and was elected as bishop of North Carolina in 2015. From the guest list to the wedding dress, here's everything you need to know about this year's biggest royal wedding.

The invitation has been seen as a break from tradition, as addresses at royal weddings are usually delivered by senior clergy from the Church of England.

Archbishop Welby, also part of the ceremony, was who baptised Meghan Markle into the church. "Now that Bishop Curry is going to be there, I will be waking up on time to catch his comments", Smith said.

He also hit the headlines in 2012 for a sermon called "We need some insane Christians" in which he discussed the notion that Jesus was "crazy" and that his followers need to be too.

He moved onto say that the followers of Jesus want those very same traits.
