LucasFilm's Keen For A Lando Spin-Off, So Prep For Maximum Donald Glover

LucasFilm's Keen For A Lando Spin-Off, So Prep For Maximum Donald Glover

A recent comment from Jonathan Kasdan, who co-wrote the screenplay for Solo: A Star Wars story with his father Lawrence Kasdan, has got Star Wars fans across the internet asking "Hello, what have we here?". According to Premiere (via CinemaBlend), Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke about the plans for a Lando-centric film in the near future.

"We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian".

Fired directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller reportedly wanted a "Guardians of the Galaxy" vibe for "Solo: A Star Wars Story" before Ron Howard replaced them.

Star Wars officials have clarified reports suggesting Donald Glover's character Lando Calrissian will become the subject of the next franchise prequel movie.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" features Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo and chronicles his life prior to the events featured in 1977's original "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope".

Lucasfilm chalked it up to a misunderstanding between Kennedy and the reporter. And though Kennedy's remarks don't guarantee a Lando spin-off, they do prove that the studio is well aware of Glover's global appeal-and is ready to capitalize on it.

Although the film appears to have those moments, the references to Lando's sexuality may be subtle or subtext at most. It's an awesome insight into the back-story of Han Solo, and what makes the iconic character tick. This is a film that enriches the Star Wars experience, it doesn't ruin it - and for that we're eternally grateful, and really rather hopeful now of a sequel.

When asked about whether or not Lando was pansexual, Kasdan answered: "I would say yes". "There have been others with one line and Lupita Nyong'o was a computer-generated character [in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi], but you didn't get to see the color of her skin".
